Best pregnancy care is more important during this time. Itching in Pregnancy is a common symptom of concern. Mild itching is easily manageable with topical emollients, moisturizer and antihistamines. If Itching is severe associated with Rash or pustules, immediate medical attention is needed. If Itching without Rash but severe, mostly in palms and soles, disturbing sleep also needs medical attention, evaluation and management.
A special condition peculiar to Pregnancy is Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy which can run in families. It is because of Hormonal changes in Pregnancy. Depending on the severity of this condition, the complications vary. It is generally said to be a condition of “Fetal Poisoning” and utmost care and follow up is needed. The symptoms resolve two to three weeks after delivery but can recur in subsequent pregnancies!
